It appears Paramount has drowned any plans that it had for the upcoming Friday the 13th movie as the studio has chose to not only remove the reboot from its release schedule but cancel the movie all together just six weeks before it was expected to begin production.

The new film was most recently given a cinema opening of 13 October (17) but Paramount bosses announced on Monday (06Feb17) it had pulled the reboot from that slot and replaced it with Jennifer Lawrence's home invasion thriller Mother. World War Z went through a famously tough final leg of production, including rewrites and reshoots, but Pitt's producing power helped push that film through. The film didn't have a cast yet, but pre-production was already underway and the flick was headed toward a shoot next month, so this decision couldn't have come easily. An unnamed source close to Friday the 13th told THR "the production was not ready to go at this date".
As for why the reboot got the axe, some sources blame the poor box office performance of Paramount's Rings, another relatively affordable horror flick that was supposed to give new life to an old franchise.
