Four suspected militants and two Indian Army soldiers have been killed in a gunbattle in Indian-controlled Kashmir, army officials have said.
In the fierce exchange of gunfire, four militants, two soldiers and a civilian, believed to be the owner of the house, were killed while three militants, who have reportedly suffered injuries, managed to escape from the area. "When the terrorists were challenged, they fired at the forces which triggered the encounter", the source said.
All shops and commercial establishments remained closed in Srinagar.
Two soldiers and two civilians also lost their lives, and three soldiers were injured, in the encounter which triggered off protests and clashes. Authorities also imposed restrictions in parts of south Kashmir.
