"Frenette attempted to inject Farruggia with an unsanitary syringe at least once before she successfully delivered a dose of the drug,"police said in a statement".

A pregnant woman going through labor demanded a friend inject her with heroin and meth before she let anyone call an ambulance for help.

Also arrested was 37 year old woman, Rhianna Frenette of Belmont who allegedly gave the expectant mother the speedball while she was in labor. Shortly afterward, firefighters arrived and Farruggia gave birth while entering the ambulance. Frenette said she took a used needle provided by someone else and "shot out probably more than half" of the substance inside it before injecting the rest into Farruggia. She and the child were taken to a hospital, and the baby was placed in state custody, police said.

Frenette said that she saw Farruggia on the floor in the bathroom, in pain because of contractions, the prosecutor said in court.

"This case is just, honestly, absolutely appalling in my mind", Ford said, according to the Associated Press. She also mentioned that the house they were at was not a place they wanted the police to be called to because a lot of drug users resided there. Urine tests revealed that the child's system was littered with methamphetamine, benzodiazepine, and amphetamine. She claimed Frenette had heroin and told her "it would take the edge off". When authorities asked Frenette why she agreed to inject Farruggia with the drugs, she allegedly remarked, "I'm a people pleaser".
