Germany owes North Atlantic Treaty Organisation 'vast sums': Donald Trump

-German relations. On the economy as well as worldwide security, Germany has emerged as Europe's unrivaled leader in recent years.

Mr Trump earlier greeted the long-serving stateswoman at the White House with a handshake before they began talks in the Oval Office.

But the country's defense minister has called for changes to the way North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members' commitments to budget targets are assessed. Many nations owe vast sums of money from past years, and it is very unfair to the United States.

Merkel said Germany had committed to increasing its military spending to the previously agreed level of 2% of GDP for NATO's European members. Germany now spends around 1.2 percent of their GDP on defense with plans to increase it in the coming years, but that money doesn't go to the United States. Trump acknowledged Germany's leadership on the conflict in Ukraine, "where we ideally seek a peaceful solution".

President Trump's handshakes with world leaders have quickly garnered a reputation of their own.

Mrs Merkel's head is slightly positioned downward which is a submissive gesture, coupled with her shoulders being raised.

Tesla Inc (TSLA) May Need More Cash in the Future
Especially considering that the image featured a vehicle that appeared to have been in the final phases of the design process. Elon Musk recently attended the 2017 World Government Summit in Dubai, to launch Tesla in the UAE.

Mr Trump made his wire-tapping jibe in a joint press conference with Mrs Merkel.

Trump completely ignored Merkel's comments, returning instead to a point he stressed previously: Trade needs to be reformed in order to be more favorable to USA interests.

Merkel was reportedly "livid" at the report, telling Obama that "she unmistakably disapproves of and views as completely unacceptable such practices".

"I am a fair trader. but I am not an isolationist", Trump said. "I am a trader".

He added: "I believe a policy of trade should be a fair trade".

Those comments appeared aimed at making a case to Trump on the benefits of the European Union.

Shakib, Mosaddek put Bangladesh on top
Mosaddek hit seven boundaries and two sixes in his 155-ball innings before being the last man to fall in the final session. Imrul Kayes made 34 before being trapped lbw by Sandakan.

It is unclear whether or not Trump heard the chancellor.

As a candidate, Mr Trump frequently accused the chancellor of ruining Germany for allowing an influx of refugees and other migrants from Syria and accused his campaign rival, Hillary Clinton, of wanting to be "America's Angela Merkel".

The second awkward moment between the two leaders came when Trump was asked about the Fox News report by a German reporter and he joked that he and Merkel at least had something in common.

The businesslike tone of their exchanges also illustrated the distance between the two leaders.

Merkel said delicately that while she represents German interests, Trump "stands up for, as is right, American interests". But she didn't deny there were rifts. "Sometimes it's hard to find compromise, but that's what we've been elected for".

The Saturday morning tweets have become a familiar part of Trump's media strategy.
