Schuylkill County ranked 64th out of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, Luzerne County came in at 62nd and Carbon County ranked 54th, according to 2017 County Health Rankings, which looked at how long people live and how healthy they felt while alive.

Miami-Dade ranked 23rd and Broward 19th on the list of healthiest to least healthy counties in the state, according to the Princeton, N.J. -based Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population health Institute.

Neighboring Delaware County ranks healthiest in OH and Pike County, in southcentral OH, is the least healthy county in the state, according to a national study.

The stark difference between Georgia's top and bottom counties can be seen in Forsyth County's low rate of premature deaths, and having just 12 percent uninsured and 7 percent of children living in poverty. Petersburg has a 9 percent unemployment rate, while 43 percent of its children live in poverty, according to the County Health Rankings report.

Nationally, the report says premature deaths are rising because of an increase in deaths among people aged 15 to 44 from a variety of factors, including drug-related deaths which "are a clear driver of this trend". The county also has a high number of children in poverty, almost 20 percent. Drug overdose and other injury deaths heavily influenced the rise in premature death, which the researchers considered deaths that could have been prevented.

Factors that led to its improvement included a significant decline in premature deaths, a decline in alcohol-impaired driving deaths, a 10 percent increase in high school graduates and an improvement in air quality.

The county ranked 23rd in factors that make up the broad categories of socioeconomics, health behaviors, clinical care and physical environment.

Findings were those reported through 2014. This year's survey says Boone County's physical inactivity is 17 percent. However, interestingly, the access to exercise opportunities was lowest in Jones County (60 percent) compared to 86 percent in Houston and 77 percent in Bibb and 74 percent in Peach. For mental health professionals, the ratio was one provider per 820 residents, compared to one per 630 residents across Ohio.

In Fayette and Raleigh counties, 36 percent of adults are obese.

The study listed 59 teen births in 2012-14, compared to an average of 32 in OH 32.

"You're ranked 85, but the social and economic factors are really, it looks like, the ones to pay the most attention to, besides the adult obesity, which is also connected to social and economic factors", Bennett said.
