For the second time this week, bystander video appears to show a white police officer stomping on a handcuffed black suspect's head during an arrest.
Gwinnett County Police Chief Butch Ayers spent Thursday firing two different officers after they punched and kicked a man they'd pulled over for a traffic violation on Wednesday.
Bongiovanni pulled Hollins over in Lawrenceville, just outside Atlanta, police said. The attack was captured via cellphone video recorded by eyewitnesses.
"The actions by this former officer do not represent the officers of this department who dedicate their lives to serving the community on a daily basis", the department statement about McDonald's termination read.
"The revelations uncovered in this entire investigation are shocking", Gwinnett police said in a statement released late Thursday.
Christians Celebrate Good Friday in Jerusalem
Laurie's message on filling the void in your life led more than 6,000 people to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. There are many things that can be believed about Jesus. "You see the best and the worst of human nature".
Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter told the AJC that charges are likely, particularly against McDonald.
"The fact that these guys felt so brazen as to. assault him in public in broad daylight in front of hundreds of onlookers and hundreds of cars is indicative of what they think is OK".
Hollins was driving a red Acura Integra with no license plate and a brake light that didn't work, and switched lanes three times without signaling, according to an incident report filed by Bongiovanni.
The officer wrote in the report that Hollins was acting strangely and his vehicle smelled of marijuana.
The veteran policeman then called called for back up and a response call was answered by McDonald, who preceded to kick Hollins while he was handcuffed on the ground. At one point, Hollins reached under a seat where officers later found a gun.
Bongiovanni punched Hollins after Hollins got out of his auto. As he arrived, he ran up and stomped on the prone and helpless Hollins.
Evacuees killed in Syria bus convoy blast
The buses were carrying almost 5,000 people from Foua and Kfraya, villages in northern Syria that have been besieged by rebels. The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported the convoy continued, and the first buses arrived late Saturday in Aleppo.
The victim walked out of jail with a bloody noise and lip Thursday afternoon.
Hollins resisted arrest and yelled about wanting to call his mother before the officers were eventually able to get him into the patrol truck, Bongiovanni wrote in August.
"I wish this never happened to me", Hollins told reporters in the company of his attorneys. He and several other officers were named officer of the month for November 2015 after they helped arrest two suspects following a robbery.
"You don't picture yourself seeing a police officer do that live and in person", Dillard said.
Eyewitness, Kenneth Dillard, shot the first video that surfaced and said he was shocked by what he witnessed.
