EPA chief makes first Superfund site visit with Indiana stop

Pruitt on Wednesday visited a Superfund site for the first time in his tenure, something elected officials from both parties noted.

Scott Pruitt, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), speaks to employees of the agency in Washington, U.S., February 21, 2017.

Scott Pruitt is touring a housing complex in East Chicago, Indiana where 1,000 people have been ordered to evacuate because of lead and arsenic in the ground.

The EPA's objective is to come in and make sure people's health is protected, and that their land and health are secure in the long run, Pruitt said. "We're committed to doing that, doing it in an efficient and effective way so we can get back and see progress in this community". Those proposed cuts could eliminate or drastically reduce funding to research programs, infrastructure programs, lead exposure prevention efforts and environmental enforcement at the federal level. The EPA works to not only safeguard the environment, but also protect the public's health, he said.

The Sierra Club said Wednesday that employees at the EPA Region 5 headquarters in Chicago were "stood up by Pruitt, in spite of their invitation for their own boss to have lunch with them".

Some veterans can go to CVS 'MinuteClinics' for minor illnesses
Congresswoman Stefanik recently reintroduced her legislation, the Support Our Military Caregivers Act, to reform the U.S. Under the bill, the VA will be allowed to operate its Choice program until the funding runs out.

Politico has already reported that President Trump's budget chief, Mick Mulvaney, singled out the EPA as a particular target for budget cuts and the EPA was to identify two regional offices for closure by June 15.

Rep. Peter Visclosky, D-Merrillville, and Sen.

Last month's revelation that the White House wants to slash the EPA budget by nearly a third sent a shock through the industry, and now details are leaking out about how those cuts might be accomplished.

Visclosky said Congress' goal is to ensure agencies have appropriate funds to meet needs.

"There's the old saying, 'do more with less, ' but that's not a real physical possibility", said Lagunas, a veteran and University Village resident.

Justice plans crackdown on violent street gangs
Department of Justice says has more than 10,000 members active in at least 40 states and Washington , D.C. Sessions blamed this increase on former administrations' immigration policies.

"It has caused extraordinary economic damage, extraordinary physical damage", Donnelly said. The memo also said the agency plans to continue to maintain a hiring freeze, with "very limited exceptions", even as the government-wide freeze expires.

The state is continuing to blood test children, replace water infrastructure and provide resources to families needing to find new homes.

Water testing done by the EPA at the Superfund site show elevated levels of contaminants in the drinking water.

And though the administration lifted its hiring freeze for federal agencies, the EPA will keep its hiring freeze in place with limited exceptions and there may be "internal reassignments", according to the memo.

Australia scraps visa for skilled foreign workers
The minister for immigration and border protection Peter Dutton said the changes were "an attempt to clean up Labor's mess". Just under 2,000 temporary visas were granted to Irish citizens between 2015 and 2016, excluding secondary applications.
