Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates to Testify in Congress About Russia

Last month, the White House forcefully denied reports that it tried to bar Yates from testifying before the House panel.

The office of the committee's acting chairman on the issue announced Friday that Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and National Security Agency director Adm. Mike Rogers have been asked to return to testify during a closed session on May 2. The committee said Friday, April 21, 2017, that it had sent letters requesting Rogers and FBI Director James Comey to appear at a closed hearing.

The House Intelligence Committee has invited former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates to testify on Russia's meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election in a public hearing next month.

The planned hearings are the first the committee has announced since its chairman, Republican Representative Devin Nunes, recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation on April 6 after receiving information at the White House about surveillance that swept up some information about members of Trump's transition team.

GM latest US company to have assets seized in Venezuela
Venezuela has been swept by protests since April 4, when the Supreme Court announced it had stripped Congress of its powers. The seizure comes amid a deepening economic crisis in leftist-led Venezuela that has already roiled many USA companies.

An attorney for Yates alleged that the Justice Department was guidance on what Yates could say about conversations she had with Trump - conversations the department indicated could be covered by executive privilege, then deferred to the White House, according to published correspondance.

The House Intelligence Committee is resuming hearings for its investigation into Russian active measures during the presidential campaign. A planned closed hearing with Comey and Rogers also was put off.

The latter hearing was the most contentious for Republicans and Democrats on the committee.

Chase Headley hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Aaron Hicks also went deep to give NY a season-high four home runs. This solo shot came right on the heels of Starlin Castro's three-run shot to go back-to-back off of Chicago's Dylan Covey .

The unanswered question is whether the decline in U.S. -Russia relations will dampen congressional enthusiasm for an investigation into whether Russian Federation sought to help elect Trump. Former CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper also were invited to appear at an open hearing on May 2.

Both the Kremlin and the Trump administration insist there is "no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion".

In the Senate, Republican and Democratic leaders of the Intelligence Committee say they trust each other and are proceeding with their own investigation into Russian meddling, including the hacking and release of Democratic emails and possible collaboration.

At this point they are a long way from scheduling interviews or hearings with any principal witnesses from either the Obama or Trump administrations, the official said.
