Turkey issues warrants for 3224 people over alleged links to failed coup

ANKARA, Turkey (A.W.)- On April 26, Turkish police announced they had recently arrested more than a 1,000 people accused of ties to the USA -based cleric Fethullah Gulen blamed for last year's failed coup.

Turkish authorities arrested more than 1,000 members of the Security Directorate for alleged links to the opposition movement Hizmet, headed by the controversial theologian Fethullah Gulen, an official source informed today.

The overnight crackdown was one of the largest operations in months against the network, which Turkey blames for orchestrating a failed coup in July.

More than 47,000 people have been arrested since the coup, Soylu has said, including about 10,700 police officers and 7,400 military personnel. The suspects are allegedly Gulen operatives who directed followers within the police force.

Turkey issued detention orders for around 3,224 people on Tuesday over their alleged links to a failed coup attempted in July past year.
