Dem calls report on Trump, intel 'disturbing'

The Washington Post is reporting that President Donald Trump revealed "highly classified information" to the Russian ambassador during a meeting at the White House last week.

The White House said the allegations, first reported by the Washington Post, were not correct.

"I was in the room, it didn't happen", H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, told reporters outside the White House late Monday.

"Two other senior officials who were present, including the secretary of state, remember the meeting the same way and have said so". "But the chaos that is being created by the lack of discipline - it's creating an environment that I think makes - it creates a worrisome environment".

As they huddled in a hallway, one eagle-eyed reporter for the conservative One America News Network spotted a handful of staffers, including Spicer and spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders, walking not far from Spicer's office.

On Monday, Ryan spokesman Doug Andres said that, "We have no way to know what was said, but protecting our nation's secrets is paramount".

"The speaker hopes for a full explanation of the facts from the administration". "Can we have a crisis-free day?"

The intelligence, shared at a meeting last week with Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak, was supplied by a USA ally in the fight against the militant group, both officials with knowledge of the situation said.

Comey had been overseeing investigations into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation to skew the 2016 election. "North Korea is developing a missile that can hit the American homeland", Graham said.

The US president allegedly bragged to Lavrov about the intelligence he was recieving.

Lawmakers were largely caught off guard by Monday's development.

Republicans were only slightly more tempered in their remarks.

"If the report is true, it is very disturbing", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement. "Revealing classified information at this level is extremely unsafe and puts at risk the lives of Americans and those who gather intelligence for our country", he said.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also slammed Trump and called for a briefing.

Greg Miller, one of The Post reporters who broke the story, told NPR's Ari Shapiro on All Things Considered that by sharing the information from another country, it could damage future intelligence gathering and USA relations with other partners.

Trump, a Republican who has called allegations of links between his campaign team and Russian Federation a "total scam", sharply criticized his 2016 election rival, Democrat Hillary Clinton, for her handling of classified information as secretary of state, when she used a private email server.

Do you something awesome to share with the world?

"Pretty terrifying", said Sen. "Our only chance of keeping this country safe is good intelligence sources".

But while White House officials denied that any intelligence sources or methods were discussed, they did not deny that Trump shared the information about the use of laptop computers on aircraft. "I mean, what could be more important?"
