Trump signs 'historic' bill to transform VA

President Trump is scheduled to sign legislation Friday created to protect whistleblowers while making it easier to fire problem employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"The administration is committed to ensuring the nation's veterans have access to the care, services, and benefits they have earned", the White House said in a statement picked up by USA Today.

Today the president signed into law my bill, the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act.

The election had been called by the Conservative Party with the intention of consolidating its hold over United Kingdom politics. Those were, he said, the rights of expatriate citizens and problems of a new EU-UK border, notably cutting across Ireland.

The legislation, which many veterans' groups supported, cleared the House last week by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 368 to 55, replacing an earlier version that Democrats had criticized as overly unfair to employees. The Senate passed the bill by voice vote a week earlier.

Federal employee unions opposed the measure. It will also provide improved protections for whistleblowers, who have proved to be invaluable in uncovering and addressing issues within the department.

Is the Whole Foods acquisition the beginning of Amazon's endgame?
Now that the companies have announced their tie-up , Mackey went on to say he is completely over the moon about Amazon. One change coming after the Whole Foods deal closes, says Citigroup, will involve private label offerings .

Concerned Veterans for America launched a massive grassroots effort to garner support for this bill, holding events across the country, making hundreds of thousands of phone calls to Congressional offices and launching online ads targeting all lawmakers to support it.

Right now, it takes up to 264 days for an appeal to move through the process when trying to remove a bad employee. VA executives would be held to a tougher standard than rank-and-file employees. "It's a reform that I campaigned on, and now I am thrilled to be able to sign that promise into law", Trump said.

"As you all know - all too well - for many years, the government failed to keep its promises to our veterans", Mr. Trump said, saying "we are just getting started" on major changes to the VA, one of his central campaign promises in 2016.
