Saints DT Nick Fairley Ruled Out For 2017, Placed On NFI List

The New Orleans Saints made a move on Monday that indicates that none of the doctors who have examined Fairley had any good news for the defensive tackle's playing future, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

On Monday even more doubt was placed on the possibility of Fairley playing for the Saints in 2017, as the team announced that it has placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list. Given that lack of experience inside, the loss of Fairley is a significant issue for the Saints with training camp starting at the end of July. He will miss the 2017 season, and could possibly be done for his career.

On June 8, Saints head coach Sean Payton said three heart specialists had evaluated Fairley. A second doctor's opinion "was a little different", Payton said, and Fairley then saw a third doctor. ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Monday's announcement could put Fairley's National Football League career in jeopardy. They also have 2nd year DT David Onyemata and 3rd year DT Tyeler Davison. He was drafted by the Lions in 2011 His best year with the team was 2013 were Fairley tailed six sacks and thirty four tackles.
