Di Resta earns Williams backing

Felipe Massa has been cleared to take part in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday having visited hospital in Budapest.

Asked about stand-in Di Resta, who hasn't raced in F1 since 2013, Williams said there were no expectations on the 31-year-old's shoulders.

With no serious problem found, Massa was seen at the Hungaroring on Saturday morning by the FIA medical delegate, who passed him fit to take part in the final free practice session.

However, he continued to feel unwell during the session, and after posting only 12 laps during the session, decided with the team to withdraw from driving, with "a view to return to the race-track for the Belgian Grand Prix".

It meant the Scot - Williams' official reserve driver - replaced the Brazilian driver for his F1 appearance since the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix.

It marked Di Resta's first experience of Formula One's new generation of cars.
