BYU Sells Caffeinated Coke Drinks for the First Time Ever

While the university may be selling caffeinated soda, it still won't offer any energy drinks for sale. Many in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which Brigham Young is a part, avoid all caffeine.

BYU's students are raving about the Mormon school's dining services development on Twitter, saying goodbye to the days they had to bring their own carbonated contraband to campus.

Monahan said he isn't quite sure to what extent the decision will affect his business, as Dr. Pepper is the company's highest seller.

"Despite what was reported, the Church revelation spelling out health practices (Doctrine and Covenants 89) does not mention the use of caffeine".

BYU has been "caffeine-free" since the 1950's. Caffeinated Coke products will be available through soda fountains and at vending machines across campus.

"Until more recently, dining services rarely received requests for caffeinated soda", dining services head Dean Wright answered on the page.

The same can't be said of the university's campus in Rexburg. "The Church's health guidelines prohibit alcoholic drinks, smoking or chewing of tobacco, and "hot drinks" - taught by Church leaders to refer specifically to tea and coffee", a post on Mormonnewsroom.org said.

Anderson and other underground market customers shared their reactions to Thursday's news on social media, some disclosed bittersweet memories while others pointed out that the ban's end is not that big of a deal for students who took advantage of the connects.
