Not only that, but CBS All Access had a record number of sign-ups because of the new show.

The first two episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery" will be available on-demand for CBS All-Access subscribers after the show's premiere. That in turn capped the streaming service's best week and month ever in new sign-ups.

FOX | Who Shot Biggie & Tupac? did 2.8 mil and a 1.1.

The following article contains spoilers for the two-part season premiere of Star Trek: Discovery, which debuted Sunday on CBS and CBS All Access.

Johnson: This story stays strictly on the Klingon side of things, going into more detail about their perspective on the Federation and the state of play as the show begins.

"While Discovery is fundamentally quite different from much of the Trek that's come before, its engagement with the franchise, and willingness to both celebrate and examine its core values, keep it true to that spirit". All 15 episodes of Star Trek: Discovery will be available to watch on Netflix with Klingon subtitles, it was also revealed.

Our main focal point is Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), who was raised by Vulcans after her parents were killed by Klingons (which doesn't seem to make sense in the timeline we have). That's out the window in the biggest possible way, because Burnham is going to continue the show on a new ship, with a new captain and crew, while wearing the label, "mutineer".

Episodes one and two of "Star Trek: Discovery" are now available to stream on CBS All Access, so if you were watching football you can catch-up on the new sci-fi adventure. Giant battle cruisers, busy viewscreens, hordes of starships, spacesuit helmets so crowded with data displays that we can barely see an actor's face - yes, it's nifty tech, but more often than not it's just in the way. Set roughly ten years before the events of the original series, Star Trek: Discovery shows a never before seen era that shaped Federation history.

Discovery also features old-style com badges, some pretty nifty looking flip-open communicators and blue uniforms reminiscent of those featured on Enterprise, another prequel series that writers and designers of the show are clearly making sure doesn't get lost in the canon. Star Trek isn't Star Trek if it isn't examining us, and Discovery looks to keep the Gene Roddenberry flame lit in that regard.

With a first officer committing mutiny, and ideas like "war is the answer" and "shoot first, ask questions later" bandied about, the philosophy of Star Trek: Discovery is clearly a confused one that has little so far to do with the principles embodied by the original series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. (She is, instead, first officer.) I was excited to see what she did next.

Discovery also stars Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh and Jason Isaacs.
