Strong quake hits Iraq-Iran border region

In Halabja, local officials said that a 12-year-old boy died from an electric shock when an electric cable fell during the natural disaster.

At least 61 people died and more than 300 people were injured in Iran when a magnitude 7.2 natural disaster hit near the Iran-Iraq border region, according to Iranian officials.

Iran is especially prone to nearly daily earthquakes because it sits astride many fault lines.

Kurdish health officials said as well as at least four people being killed there were 50 injured.

One hundred Chinese students were enrolled this year on an MBA course at the institute, the local paper said. Two were taken to a hospital with injuries that were considered serious, but not life-threatening.

There were similar scenes in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, and across other cities in northern Iraq.

The semi-official Iranian ILNA news agency reported that at least 14 provinces had been impacted by the natural disaster.

Two people have died in the city of Qasr-e Shirin, Iranian TV reported, citing the country's Emergency Services.
