Special counsel subpoenas Deutsche Bank on President Trump's finances

Bloomberg News corrected Wednesday its bombshell report that special counsel Robert Mueller had subpoenaed Deutsche Bank records pertaining to President Donald Trump and his family.

FRANKFURT/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A USA federal investigator probing alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election asked Deutsche Bank for data on accounts held by President Donald Trump and his family, a person close to the matter said on Tuesday, but Trump's lawyer denied any such subpoena had been issued.

Mueller is probing reported Russian attempts to influence the 2016 United States presidential election and potential collusion by Trump advisers.

Mueller, of course, is looking for a Russian Federation connection with this subpoena, but Trump and his lawyers are unlikely to be sympathetic to that interpretation, and will likely cast it as an unreasonable intrusion into the president's personal life - part of the "witch hunt" the president keeps decrying.

An internal review conducted by Deutsche Bank showed no connection between those transactions and Trump, but now Mueller's squad of investigators will make their own judgment.

"We confirmed that the news reports that the special counsel had subpoenaed financial records related to the president are completely false", Sanders said.

Earlier this year, Mr Trump said pursuing his personal finances would be a breach of Mr Mueller's role as special counsel.
