Meteor shower to fly across Norway's skies

The Geminids meteor shower will see multi-coloured shooting stars burning up in our atmosphere on Thursday 14th December. It is a great time to get up, go outside and let the world blow your mind!

This stunning wonder of nature takes place as our planet travels through the tail of an asteroid called 3200 Phaethon, which is due to brush nail-bitingly close to our planet on December 17.

In areas with low light pollution in the northern hemisphere, the shower's peak may bring as many as 120 meteors per hour streaking across the sky.

He said: "This is the chance to witness the most active and reliable meteor shower of the year". The Moon will be a barely-there waning crescent.

Anil Kapoor joins cast of Race 3 with Salman Khan
It has been reported that the clash between Salman Khan's " Race 3 " and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's " Fanne Khan " has been averted. The film also stars Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah, Saqib Saleem and Freddy Daruwala along with various others.

As the Earth flies through the debris of a unusual cross between a comet and an asteroid, 3200 Phaethon, material from that object will enter the Earth's atmosphere and put on a light show that peaks Wednesday and Thursday, beginning at around 10:30 p.m. each night. This year the astronomers will have the opportunity to analyse Phaethon closely in mid-December as it will make its nearest pass by Earth since it was found.

The shower is named for the constellation Gemini, from which the meteors appear to emanate. In the southern hemisphere, you will have a subdued but still attractive show because Gemini doesn't rise very high above the local horizon.

Meteor showers occur when the Earth ploughs through clouds of cometary dust.

"With August's Perseids obscured by bright moonlight, the Geminids will be the best shower this year", said Bill Cooke with NASA's meteoroid environment office.
