US Vetos UNSC Resolution Criticising Trump's Jerusalem Decision

In a widely anticipated vote, Washington exercised their veto power on Monday to block UN Security council resolution backed by 14 other Council members that would have forced Trump to retract his recent contested declaration over the status of the much-coveted holy city.

Britain's Permanent Representative Matthew Ryrcroft reflected the views of the other members when he said the United States decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital had no legal affect and his country disagreed with it.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas the USA should no longer be involved in brokering a Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. The Palestinians view the east as the capital of their future state.

Trump's decision to move the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was a sovereign decision and "fully in line" with previous Security Council resolutions, Haley added.
